16 Jul 2002

1. Install

Download SSHSecureShellClient.exe and save it to a temporary directory, such as C:\Windows\Temp. Double-click SSHSecureShellClient.exe to begin the installer program. After a few moments, you should see the setup wizard (Figure 1).

We recommend that you accept the defaults during the installation by choosing Next, Yes, or Finish when prompted.

2. Connect

After the installation is complete, you should see two new shortcuts on your Desktop. The installer also places shortcuts in the Start menu. Double-click the SSH Secure Shell Client shortcut on your Desktop to start the program.

After the main window appears, press Enter or the space bar to bring up the Connect to Remote Host dialog (Figure 2). Enter the host name (such as login.geo.mtu.edu or login.rsi.mtu.edu) in the Host Name field and your username in the User Name field. Then select Connect.

The first time you connect to a server with SSH Secure Shell, you will see a Host Identification dialog (Figure 3). This is normal behavior. Selecting Yes will cause SSH Secure Shell to check the server's host key against SSH Secure Shell's saved host key for added security.

After entering your password in the next dialog, you will be connected.

3. Profiles

After you've connected, you will see an Add Profile dialog. By typing a name for the profile and selecting Add to Profiles, you can quickly connect by choosing it from the Profiles menu.
